Vesiperhoset ovat perhosille lähisukua olevia hyönteisiä, jotka elävät toukkavaiheensa veden alla. Tiettyjen vesiperhoslajien toukat keräävät asuttamansa veden pohjasta kiviä, kaarnaa, lehtiä ja vesikasvien osia, joista ne luovat ympäristöönsä sulautuvan ja itseään suojaavan kuoren.

‘Valonkuori’ on ehdotus kerroksellisesta teoksesta rakennuksen julkisivuun, joka saa inspiraationsa vesiperhosista ja Porvoonjoen luonnosta. Teos rakentuu lasipinnasta, johon digiprintataan alueelta kerättyjä kasveja, ajopuita ja muita jokisuiston rannoilta löydettyjä asioita, sekä lasipinnan takana olevasta teräslevypinnasta, johon on kuvioitu suuri vesiperhonen. Pimeällä valaistu teos muistuttaa kuultavaa meripihkaa, joka kätkee sisäänsä jokisuiston eloa ja aarteita. Teoksen mahdollisena lisäosana on kivinen vesiperhosen toukan kuorta muistuttava veistos/ympäristötaideteos, joka sijoittuu Taidetehtaan rantakadun toisella puolella olevalle nurmialueelle. Se koostuu työmaalta ylijääneistä kivistä, betonista ja kullanhohtoisista messinkijuovista.

Caddisflies (order Trichoptera) are insects closely related to butterflies that live their larval stage underwater. The larvae of certain caddisfly species collect stones, bark, leaves and parts of aquatic plants from the bottom of the water they inhabit, from which they create a shell that blends into their environment and protects themselves. 

‘Valonkuori’ is a proposal for a layered work for the facade of a building, which draws its inspiration from water butterflies and the nature of the Porvoo River. The work consists of a glass surface, on which plants, driftwood and other things found on the banks of the river estuary are digitally printed, and a steel plate surface behind the glass surface, on which a large water butterfly is patterned. Illuminated in the dark, the work resembles shimmering sea amber, which hides the life and treasures of the river estuary within. A possible addition to the work is a stone sculpture / environmental artwork resembling the shell of a caddisfly larva, which will be located on the grass area on the other side of the Art Factory waterfront. It consists of stones, concrete and golden brass stripes left over from the construction site.
